The sacrament of Holy Orders is the Church’s response to the biblical command: “Come, follow me”. He sets apart certain men for a special vocation, creating a community or brotherhood of men dedicated to ministry who will serve church members as priests. It is a ritual that involves the ancient practice of “laying on of hands” and anointing with oil. As gay men, we are all too familiar with laying on of hands for ourselves and others and using oil (or lubricant) to anoint ourselves for pleasure! What if these elements were used as a sacrament to create a Community of Pleasure? A Brotherhood of Eros? Ministers of the Erotic? Using just a little imagination and claiming the Sacred for our erotic bodies, this brotherhood of priests can look a lot like that.
