Ares embodies the following features:
He is the god of war and dance
He has immediate access to embedded emotions like anger, rage, jealousy, competition, etc.
He is one of the few classic American male archetypes: athletes, military, prison guards, etc. He’s intimidating, but not necessarily smart.
Ares creates a facade of hyper masculinity to protect himself from the intense vulnerabilities he feels. The disowned tenderness and compassion that are his inner child must be contacted and released in order for him to be whole. In the myth, Ares was locked as a child in a bronze jar and nearly died. Hermes rescues him at the last moment.
